URS FISCHER

Born in 1973, in Zurich, artist Urs Fischer works and lives in New York. After studying photography in Zurich, he then went on to do an artists in residence at Delfina studios in London. What I find so striking about Fischer's work is the materials he uses. Involving everyday objects like bread, fruit, dust, and chairs, creates something engaging and inspirational to the viewer, as things that we use everyday are manipulated into eye catching works of art.
I have been looking at Fischer's, 'house of bread', a life-size cabin built from loaves of sourdough bread, expandable foam, and wood. Another work I have looked at is where Fischer screwed together half a pear and half an apple, half a cucumber and half a banana, half an onion and half an eggplant. Each 'coupling' was then suspended from a single nylon string and left to decay.
